Case Study - Sam Clare

Sam worked with me 1-1 for 3 months, and here is her story..

Before working with Melissa..
I had a lack of technical knowledge and found selling awkward.
I felt so uncomfortable. I have a reasonably successful handmade business but the sales there are made very emotionally and so didn't feel like selling, but helping. Melissa encouraged me to see that product sales are all problem solving and, therefore, helping and that I had to look at it from a different angle.

Any hesitations?
That my business wasn't in the handmade/craft sector and I no longer have young children so I wouldn't 'fit' as an ideal client.

How did it go over the 3 months?
Right from the first session, I realised they were going to make a difference. Melissa is so good at breaking everything down into steps and stopping the overwhelm. Melissa didn't allow me to overthink anything and could see every issue as a small straightforward one to overcome.
Melissa looked at my business objectively and had solutions...

3 Ways You Can Use SEO To Grow Your Business

When it comes to growing your business online, it's important to never overlook Search engine optimisation. So how can you use SEO to grow your business?

Search engine optimisation is where you use search engines like Google to get your website in front of your ideal customers when they search for a product or service that you provide.

Social media is great for growing your business and your brand and it's not that you have to choose just one option. Either Social Media or SEO. You should choose to use both.

They are two different types of marketing. Social media it's a form of push marketing. Where you are pushing your products and services in front of your ideal clients, in the hope that when they see it they will choose to buy from you.

Search engine optimisation is a form of pull marketing, this is where your customers are searching for you. They are using Google and the other search engines to find the products and services that you...

The Basics of Social Media

The reason social media exists is in the name; it is social, which means talking to people connecting people.  It's media and PR; it’s pitching your business.

So you need to be using social media because, I promise you, your customers are on there just waiting to discover your business.

Talk to your audience

It's your job to go and find them, find the social media platform that they're on, and go and talk to them, make connections with them, make friends with them. But make sure that if they go and click on your personal profile, everything on it ties back to what you're selling and drives them to your website or Facebook Group.

The importance of Content

I do that with funny memes, jokes, things like that, that they will find entertaining, not what you find entertaining. You’ll know they’re working when you get likes, comments and shares. Now entertaining them is an excellent way of getting engagement. So it's the thing that will...

How to get your product seen with maximum impact and minimum spend

If you want your product to have maximum impact with a minimum spending, you need to get some C.L.A.R.I.T.Y.
I've asked a lot of product business owners, and they tend to make things that they love, but they're not actually thinking about what their customer wants and end up wondering why they're not getting sales. This is all well and good if you love your product, but unless you are 100% about your target market, it might not resonate with them.
Here’s my step-by-step guide on how to get clear on your product:-

1. Customer
This is who you need to keep in mind when you're planning your product. Some of the questions to think about are:-

• Age
• Gender
• Are they children?
• Are they teenagers?
• Are they older?
• Are they married or single?
• Do they still live with their parents?
• Do they have kids?
• What values do they live by?
• Are they very eco-friendly?
• Do they only use organics?
• How much money do they earn?

5 things you can do to be consistent in business

One of my favourite quotes is, “it does not matter how slow you go, as long as you do not stop.”

You need consistency in your business if you are going to make those sales, connect with your target market and scale your business. There is no way around it; to become successful in business, consistency is key. There is no such thing as an overnight success, it takes hard work and dedication. So take it one step at a time, plan ahead, and it will pay off in the long run. In this post, I want to share a few tips about how to be consistent in your business.

1. Schedule your social media content

Keeping on top of social media takes up so much time, doesn’t it? To make my life easier, I schedule my content ahead by using apps. I use Hootsuite, for example, which schedules posts for Facebook groups. If you have a Facebook group and you don't want to go in every day, you can schedule up to 30 posts on Hootsuite for free. So if you post once day, you can already...

Why your product business needs a Call To Action on it's social media posts

If you don't give your customers a Call To Action (CTA), how will they know what you want them to do?

It is the BIGGEST mistake you can make online, not to give your customers a CTA!

A CTA is the NUMBER ONE thing you NEED to have on ALL your posts when you're talking to your ideal customers via social media.

How else are they going to find and buy your product???? Is it going to magically appear at their doorstep? NO!

"So what is CTA?" I hear you ask!

Every post you place online, every blog post, every comment you make should include a CTA to encourage the reader to take action!

Here's some examples:

  • Grab your copy here......
  • Click like if you.....
  • Reply back and let me know.......
  • I love your page, let's keep in touch - DM me.....

And ALWAYS follow the CTA with a LINK directly to your product, not to your shop - where they may browse, get bored/forget why they're there, and disappear! Which you certainly don't want to happen!

You can...

How to create your sell out product offer!

Have you ever come up with an idea for an offer for your target market and thought it was SO GOOD!!?

Only to find when you put it out there it BOMBED! :(

Me too!!

I'll show you how I did it wrong, and how I corrected it and made it a SELL OUT!

Below is the picture of the one that went wrong:

The text reads:

Want £10 worth of materials for FREE?
The first 5 people to spend £30 on the website:
Then enter their order number in the comments here will be sent a £10 Mystery Box in their order totally FREE!
Mystery Boxes contain a mix of supplies from us - brilliant for topping up your stash!"

This item only got 2 sales, which was quite disappointing!

I'll share the 3 reasons why below:

1) The name & image - it just wasn't catchy enough, and did't give enough info.

2) They had to go and place an order (spending over a certain amount) and then come back and find this post to get their free box - this was too...

Showing up on Instagram stories!

Devised a process of laying out your Instagram stories, create some fill in the blanks graphics to help you along (we recommend

Instagram Stories drive 30% of the traffic to my website each month!!!

I'm posting on Stories more, getting more interaction and I'm enjoying it!!

Here's how you can do it too:

1) Plan out what you want to show your audience each day. What would they be interested in seeing? How can you tie it in with today's social media post?

2) Create graphics in (they have simple to use Instagram Stories templates!).  Leave some parts blank so you can fill in the gaps directly on Instagram and make them more relevant and personal.  This also means you can use them again and again.

3) Save these graphics as images to your phone/computer/tablet, so you can post them to Instagram stories on the go!

4) Take a deep breath and publish your first set of stories!!

Who am I selling to?

Have an amazing product, but not getting the sales you expected?

The reason could be as simple as this:
You aren't selling to your Target Market!

One of the main problems I've seen in my near 20 years in the business is trying to sell to EVERYONE!

If you don't hone your message, and your product to your target market, you are effectively selling to everyone, and therefore selling to no-one.

You need to think about:

WHO they are - male? Female?

Are they buying for themselves?

What lifestyle do they lead?

Do they have children? Pets?

What problem does your product solve for them?

Get really clear on this, and you will find it easier to create product, speak to your audience and grow your business!

How can I give excellent customer service?

If there is one thing I make sure I concentrate 100% on in my business, it's my customer service. Why? Because your customers are powerful!!

They have the ability to recommend your business to their friends, or tell them to steer clear!

A quick google search pulled up these stats:

Nearly 95% of shoppers read online reviews before making a purchase (Spiegel Research Center, 2017)

Displaying reviews can increase conversion rates by 270% (Spiegel Research Center, 2017)

So now do you understand why customer service is crucial?

Here are my top tips for amazing customer service, that will have your customers recommending you to everyone!

1) Underpromise, overdeliver: If you promise a 2 week lead time, and ship in 1 week. That is a lovely surprise for the customer!

2) Go above and beyond: Has your customer ordered multiple matching items but left one of them out from your range? Pop it in as a freebie to complete the set. Add in a little note for them, and watch the positive...
